People of all different ages, see the world in all different ways. Working with adolescents in my practicum has been such a treat. It has also been a great learning experience. Working with adolescents is different from anything I have ever done. Talking to them and relating to them can be a bit difficult. It continues to difficult because each adolescent is different, and they communicate in different ways. Some are extremely open and are willing to share information. While others are more guarded and it takes times to build rapport. I interviewed a family friend’s sixteen-year-old son. I have changed the names of those interviewed for confidentiality purposes. This week I interviewed Thomas. I choose to interview Thomas has his home, so he would be comfortable. I asked Thomas where he would like to be interviewed at, he choose the kitchen. I casually chatted with Thomas before we started the interview. He seemed very comfortable and at ease with me before the interview started. I started with the most basic questions. The character Thomas Builds-the-Fire in the book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven tells many different stories of the hardships each Indian on the reservation deals with, and of the how the people on the reservation can handle these hardships. The stories he uses in this book are mostly fictional, but they tell stories in a different way than how your mind actually puts it. He adds a little more magic in his stories to make them sound believable. It is through Thomas’ stories that make people actually think about what happens on and of the reservation. His initial reaction towards Thomas when he saw him was that he was not too fond of him. As the story goes on, Victor starts changing his opinions towards Thomas. Victor starts off as a disconcerting, closed minded individual towards the idea of Thomas helping him out by lending Victor money.…

Before the Europeans, ancient hunters crossed the Bering strait to become the first inhabitants of what is now the United States. As Europeans explored, they found savage people inhabiting the land that they recently claimed. Countless times in the United States history, native people have been booted from their land and forced to move, pushed into boarding schools, and murdered all because they disgusted Europeans. In the time since the Europeans migrated to North America, the natives have only been abhorred and mocked. Even in today’s liberal society it is evident that the Native American culture is still subject to all kinds of discrimination, through TV shows, movies, and other types of media.…

A look at the three works, thematically we are brought to the realization of the unspoken Native American culture. An unstated theme of these stories could be the plight of the American Indians and their struggles in the past under the European Colonialism and the conflicts therein with the establishment of a better future. In the Shawl, the healing and restoration theme can be translated by the fact that after the excessive trauma suffered by the narrator’s father, he finally accepts to move beyond the trauma of his childhood (Erdrich, 2014). The narrator relates the story of his grandfather being left by his grandmother who had fallen in love with another man. Eventually, she leaves with the narrator’s aunt.…

Senior Year My greatest memory so far in my eighteen years of being on this earth is without a doubt my senior year of high school. It was absolutely unforgettable. My senior year as a whole (which was just last year) was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life and the happiest I have ever been. When I was a chubby little freshman with glasses I thought to myself that high school would be one of the longest time periods of my life and that four years would feel like forty years. But man was I wrong, high school went by in the blink of an eye.…
