Practicum Reflection

During week five in my practicum, I volunteered to help out the administrator. I believe it is important to know how every area of the hospice work or at least have an idea. I learned about how organized files of employees, place orders, payroll, etc. I had previews experience in management, but it was in a restaurant, so it was good to see how an office is run. In addition, I practiced to do the social workers' reports and put them into the computer system. Now, I am confident I can complete them on my own without the need of any supervision. In addition, I noticed that the hispanic population on the hospice is extremely small. I concluded that the reason might be that hispanics have the wrong perception about hospices. For example, Before I started my practicum in the hospice, I believed that hospices were to help people who don't have family or their families did not want to take care them when they were terminally ill. This was a complete misperception. More information need to be available to inform and educate the hispanic community, so they can benefit from these services. …show more content…
I have two jobs and I am taking five classes at UNLV, plus my practicum. Time is precious for me, so most of my free time I used it to sleep which it jus my favorite thing to do now days. The only thing helped me out relax was walking my dog, I usually do it for about 20 minutes a day. I know it is important to take it easy, but it stresses me out more that my mom and/or me are struggling for money than me having two jobs, so I chose the less of the two

This was an excellent week. I learned how to do assessments based on the cardiac and respiratory systems. I was able to serve food, help assist with feeding, and observe the residents chart. In addition, I worked more independently with the residents at the nursing home. I was able to engage in conversation, assist with toileting, and attend a social activity with the residents.…

I think that an unusual circumstance allowed me to see just how difficult hospice work can be at times. Leah, one of the nurses I shadowed, had previously worked at an insurance company years before becoming a nurse. Early in my visit, we were informed that one of her old co-workers would be admitted. She spoke to the manager to make sure there was…

My journey and passion for hospice started with two personal experiences, and I desired to help people leave this world with peace and dignity. When I was in Elementary School, we had to bring in a large paper bag filled with things that would describe our dream job. I got up in front of the class very confident with my nurse bag. My nurse bag was something I played with often at home, so I was very familiar with its content.…

English 219 was my first college level English course, and through attending and completing all of the assignments I have learned many skills that I believe will greatly help me in my future courses in college. Next semester I am enrolled in English 220, and after having taken this course I feel substantially better about continuing on with English courses at a college level. It has helped me to become more confident in my writing skills and provided me with an excellent basis for me to continue on with next semester, and throughout the rest of my schooling experience. Throughout this class I have learned many things, but perhaps the most important is the steps to writing an essay, and the planning options.…

My 3-practicum placements have provided me with different, but great learning experiences. I was able to practice what I have been learning in my other college courses in my practicums. In all my practicums, I was able to build positive relationships with each student and teacher-supervisors that I interacted with. I have worked in a grade 4, grade 1, and now a grade 3 classroom. As I assisted in each classroom I was able to learn what my teacher-supervisors would expect from their educational assistant.…

The way I incorporated the content I learned from my issues and delivery course into my field practicum is by, being a well active listener, being patient, being an observer, and being able to facilitate group sessions. When it came to the staff meetings I had to make sure I listen to all the information that were given to me so that I would be well prepared and equip to be beneficial to the students. Another skill I want to discuss is patience, patience is important because when the student’s do not understand their homework assignments they tend to get frustrated. Usually, I find diverse ways to present the problem to the students so that they can find a solution to their problem. I also encourage the students to take their time and use…

For the first time I was able to put everything I had learned into practice. My practicum was one of the best learning experiences I have experienced as a student. When I reflect on this semester and my practicum experience, the first thing that comes to my mind is motivation and drive. This is the first time I have actually felt comfortable enough to want to be in the classroom all day, everyday. This semester opened up my eyes in many different ways, and if anything, made me fall more in love with teaching and working with these students. After this practicum experience, I bring a new gift with me and that is confidence. I feel at easy in front of a group of students and truly feel that if my CT made me get up and help her teach, I could figure it out.…
