The first day I met with Stephanie I mainly asked questions I never received an answer to my first semester as a Communications Arts major. I switched into Comm halfway through my first semester as an architecture student because I worried I would be stuck with the same architecture job my whole life. I told her things like that really concern me and she confirmed what my friend from high school told me when I decided I wanted to switch. They both explained how Comm had multiple options from behind the scenes music production to on camera anchor positions. This was a major relief both times I heard it because I never want to be stuck in the same field and though it is all one major I have many different options to choose from. The semester I started Comm I joined the radio station because I like to hear new artists and I thought it would be beneficial for me in the future. I was taught how to run the station, but I never learned anything else the first year. Stephanie told me that practicum is used to familiarize students with work they would find in the real world. It is also used to run school organizations such as the newspaper (website), radio, television station, and more. This way the school is able to keep necessary functions without paying for (most) workers while students learn valuable skills for their …show more content…
I heard a lot about it beforehand and taking her advice from our last meeting I decided it could not hurt to go. During the meeting, Steph introduced me to the rest of her photography group and they proceeded to tell me all of what they do. While the others were talking, Stephanie explained how they would take certain jobs by going to events to take pictures and putting them on a website or a flashdrive to save them for future use. That is when she told me about the other groups The Wood Word has and what they

For the disability ministry project, we were asked to choose a practicum experience where we shadowed or spoke to someone helping someone with a disability. For my project I chose to spend some time in the class for disabled children at the high school I graduated from. Throughout the glimpse of time that was allotted for this particular practicum experience I learned a lot of exciting things about disabilities, but also made some disconcerting revelations. While spending the day at school I was able to interact with the students, teachers, and overall staff of the high school; gaining insights, perspectives, and forming thoughts on everything I had witnessed. From start to finish, my day back at school has left a lasting impression on me.…

Throughout this professional experience, I feel I have made several discovers as well as affirmations about who I want to be as a teacher with my own class. One of the biggest and I think most relevant discovers I have been fortunate to make is, how important technology is in teaching the current and future generation of students. As children are growing into digital natives, it is essential for teachers to retrain and adjust their teaching style in order to meet their learners’ needs. During this professional experience, I have had the privileged of having the ICT coordinator of my school as one of my teachers.…
