Students worked through the Practical Inquiry Task, with the intention to attain an Australian Underwater Federation Snorkelling Proficiency Certificate. To achieve this certification, students were obligated to participate in theory lessons where a concept of snorkelling theory was introduced. Snorkelling concepts variated throughout the snorkelling workbook, involving equipment, snorkelling safety and skills. Initially the workbook examined a range of snorkelling equipment, outlining the equipment’s functionality and proper manipulation. Safety was a major factor considered throughout the workbook. WHERE to go snorkelling locally?
The unit embarked on many snorkelling experiences, in a variety of locations within victor harbor. Although we began to develop our skills in Franklin Harbor, it was compromised by poor visibility however was a good location for skill development as it was close to shore and introductory for the beginners. Other locations include Oliver’s Reef., Bluff beach and Jetty, Encounter Bay Reef, Dry Reef and Wright Island. The experience from these locations offered great marine life interactions and learning and skill development.
WHEN to get out of the water?
There are many situations requiring you to evacuate the water other than emergency situations. Through the development of the unit one of the ten safety rules established was dive within your limits and sue common sense. Listening to your body and having that common sense can prevent situations happening before they begin to advance. As an illustration getting out of the water when you start to get cold can effectively reduce and prevent hypothermia, as coldness is the first symptom. likewise when you show systems of exertion including fatigue and leg cramps, getting out of the water when showing signs of exertion is highly important as it can impose
