Pokeweed Antiviral Protein, PAP, is a type I Ribosome Inactivating Protein, RIP [1]. RIP’s are a group/family of proteins that are used as resistance factors against different types of viruses and fungi [2]. The Pokeweed Protein is used as an inhibitor for the replication and protein synthesis of animal and plant viruses [3]. PAP is purified from the leaves of the Pokeweed plant and seems to have identical characteristics to other single chained proteins, like Ricin and Abrin.
