Poynette: Why I Give Back To My Community Future

Improved Essays
Poynette has been an amazing community to grow up in, this is where I learned to help others in a time of need and when not. Another reason my education will help give back to my community is my own influence on the children still growing up in Poynette. What I learn in college, even if it’s simple information about life, I can bring that knowledge back to them. My education will be used to get a major in architecture and interior design, which can help better the communities future. Because I am a young adult my influence in younger minds will have a large impact, when I come home from college over breaks, I’m hoping to continue my service among the community. By doing so, I hope that my actions will affect those younger than me to take action. Currently, I am tutoring after school, as much as I can with Mrs.Smith 5th grade class. Every time I go over there I see how much they look up to me, they constantly ask me questions about high school and life. Although I won’t be there for the kids next year, I hope they take what I’ve taught them about life, and school and apply that to their future lives. …show more content…
Architecture requires me to be open with clients to ensure they will get what they want. With this job, in the future, I can help our area flourish into a better area. But, each year our community will continue you to grow whether I am there or not. I just want to be apart of that influential change. Such as the Jameson house, I used to wander the halls of that house for years when Heidi owned it, I was saddened by how the families that lived in it ruined the houses meaning. One thing I’ve known for sure is that when I get older, I want to buy the Jameson house and restore

Being a member of this distinguished society is what I have strived towards since elementary school. Watching presentations and hearing stories from individuals in high school from a young age (who were at the time active National Honor Society members), inspired the archetype that I aspired to be –the archetype of an individual who shares the four characteristics that National Honor Society stands for: scholarship, service, leadership and character. Throughout my high school career, I worked towards the scholarship aspect. Despite where I am currently, my freshman year had not gone as well as I hoped it would.…

I have a strong passion for helping anyone and everyone I can, and helping the incoming sixth graders (and other new students) of next year is a new and exciting way for me to give back to my community the way the WEB leaders two years ago did when I felt like I didn’t belong. The decisions I feel the best about are always the ones that positively influence others. Over the years, I’ve done a variety of things to pass on the love and lessons everyone in my community has given me, and learned to find my way through middle school after my own diagnosis of a heart condition two months ago.…

I’ve always thought about helping others so they can have the same benefits that I have today, if it’s just to speak out or even not to feel discouraged because you walk in somewhere and people look at you because you're a different skin color. By my junior year I was able to do that by notifying the people in the community about this big issue. The task was to go around the San Fernando community to pass out flyers and inform them about immigrants rights. While doing this, I learned the skills of speaking to a stranger about issues that still concern us today. Going to the first house was terrifying, stepping into those first steps and speaking to a stranger in the morning that doesn’t want to be interrupted was going to be difficult.…
