Once I joined the powerlifting club I started having more structured workouts and was able to more clearly see how much strength I was able to gain. We had six weeks until our next meet so we spent those weeks training to get stronger I felt like I could handle more so for my deadlift I went to tie my max but I failed. I was upset with myself but also knew that doing squat and bench could take energy from me so I was alright because I felt like I could get it the next one. Another six weeks pass for the next meet and at that one I failed again at 405. Our last meet came after and I was determined to match my 405. I set personal records with my bench and squat that day, I felt like that was my day to get my record of 405. I once again failed I couldn’t believe that with the amount of training I was putting in didn’t pay off.
That day I decided that I was gonna work my hardest to set maxes in every lift the next year including deadlift. It didn’t matter how much as long as I improved it. The summer I spent much of my time getting stronger and overall becoming a better athlete. The beginning of the semester with my coach found my new maxes. I gained 25 pounds on my bench, 40 pounds on my squat and 5 pounds on my deadlift. Those 5 pounds don’t seem like too much to someone just looking at my maxes but they mean a lot to me. Improvement is something to be proud of no matter how big or
