Powerhouse Network Analysis

Most of society relies on the mainstream media to inform them of current events or news stories. The six most relied on news networks are labelled Powerhouse networks, they are FOX News, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC. The six networks can be categorized into three groups, based on their upbringings and establishments. ABC, CBS, and NBC are considered the original three out of the group, because the were the first to be aired in 1926. They are also the only three networks that are available on non-paid television. The second grouping of the six would be CNN and MSNBC, who were established in the 1980’s. Unlike the original three, CNN and MSNBC are only available on paid cable TV. The six powerhouse networks have a variety of political beliefs and biases. The original three, ABC, CBS, and NBC are all liberal networks who favor the left wing. CNN and MSNBC are also liberal, but differ from the original three, in the way that they are considered liberal extremists. John Stossel disagreed with the liberal beliefs of NBC, and thought that the public deserved more political variety in their news. Up until the establishment of FOX News, all five of the powerhouse networks were liberal. FOX News was the first non-liberal news network, it is also the most diverse, because it not only reports through a republican perspective, it also accepts the beliefs of others such as libertarians and independents. FOX News is revolutionizing the news with the acceptance of other ideologies other than the mainstream. An example of this would be their most watched news caster, Megyn Kelly who is an independent. She is well admired by her viewers, because she discusses both the liberal and conservative sides of her stories to better educate her viewers. NBC has taken note at her success, and has hired her as a news caster, her presence on that network will shift NBC into a more neutral news
