Power Of Words Project

Decent Essays
Hello, I am Amanda Bekkala and I am here to submit my application to help with this wonderful Power of Words Project to add some color, life, and creativity to a wall in Downtown Iron Mountain. I think that this is an amazing opportunity to get the chance to work with you and your team of artists on creating a beautiful mural as the last one turned out breaktaking. If I am chosen for this I would be honored to be part of a team with you and other amazing artists. This seems like a wonderful opportunity that would create memories for a lifetime and I would love to help recreate creativity.

I am currently a sophomore going into junior year next year who has their mind set on becoming a veterinarian or medical laboratory scientist,

I feel that I should at least try my chance to get in and if I am not chosen then better luck next time because if I've learned anything from school I know that I know that I should never give up on things. I have worked on a small-scale school mural a little but haven't done anything big-scale yet. It's something that I would like to try one day and being a part of a team of wonderful artists would be a dream come true. The Power of Words mural would be a thing that is everlasting and make people say, “That is truly a beautiful sight that adds color to the world,” as they go past it. The first mural was simply gorgeous and I know that this one will be. Although becoming an artist is not my first career choice, it is on my list. I love watching small animators on YouTube who are trying to make their own way through art school and I always wonderful if I could make something as good as theirs one day. The ASA Art Show was this past Monday and as I stared at all of these amazing pieces of work that probably took a long time to finish, I again wondered if I could one day be that great. Art is something that everyone is good at, but in order to get better and become one of the greats they need to practice and not be afraid to bring out their skills or creativity. Art is teamwork and a talent that needs to be

A veterinarian is a doctor who cares for and treats all animals. Vet schools require four to six years of school after completing your undergraduate degree. Vets treat large and small animals and prescribe medicine and perform surgeries. Some of the best veterinary schools in the country are Texas A&M, Oklahoma State University, and Louisiana State University. Elbert Hubbard once said “Art is not a thing; it is a way.” Art is all around us; from the floor we walk on, to the color of the walls around us, to the music we listen to on the radio. Many kids have taken on a lot of different forms that did not exist many years ago. Today, we fill our world with street art not exactly thought about to be art like mimes, circus acts, puppetry, mask theater, vaudeville, and storytelling through movement (Rapp 4). Art is an essential part of our society today and has been for many years.…

My love for animals and passion for medicine has shown me that a Career as a Veterinary Tech is where I belong. The first step is applying to a Technology/Technician Program. Before entering, this program requires you to take prerequisites that include basic math, writing, and computer courses. There is a big difference between a veterinary technician and Veterinary technologist. A Veterinary technologist attends college for about four to five years and graduates with a B.S. degree in Veterinary Technology.…

In the story, “The Pelcari Project” by Rodrigo Rey Rosa, an ordinary doctor stumbles onto the cruel medical experiments that are forced onto prisoners held a secret prison camp. The prisoners are stripped from their ability to talk, read and remember. Being in my last year of high school I have begun to think about what goals I want to accomplish during college or after college. I have come to a conclusion that after college I would like to obtain my doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine and start a family. After college I would love to get my doctorate because I enjoy helping animals and their owners. Growing up I have always had a soft spot for animals in my heart, but by majoring in wildlife sciences, it will allow me to come out of my shell and take a different path from just dogs and cats. Also by majoring in this department, I hope to encounter different cultural backgrounds so that I can grow culturally and learn about others while helping them with whatever struggles they…

To build a competitive resume I strive to merit more than a 3.5 gpa as well as have over 350 hours of shadowing local veterinarians and volunteering on the poultry and livestock farms on campus. At Virginia Tech, there is a requirement for all…

Words are the most powerful weapon, or so the saying goes. They can create hope for the most dismal of people, or they could be the reason someone swears never to smile again. In M.T. Anderson’s book, Feed, the main character Titus and his callow friends rely heavily on the Feed for every word, perhaps even every thought. Their words are no longer their own, but instead ideas strategically placed into their heads. If they ever find themselves comforting a friend, or paying someone a compliment, or caught in the middle of a lie, they need only call upon the Feed for help designing the perfect phrase to say.…

Option 2 There are different ways through which questions of language and power can be looked at. First, the concepts of language and power can be looked at through analysis of the power play within institutional contexts such as the legal institution (Eades 2006) and the medical institution (Crawford 1999). Language can also be discussed in the context of gender and sexuality. Cameron (2005) points out that when looking at socialization, gender linguistic behavior and gender identities are obtained in the early stages of a person’s life. Additionally, language is discussed and examined on how it is a source of power.…
