Power Of Words In Liesel's The Book Thief

In The Book Thief, there are many different occasions in which you see the power of words. Some of those instances are described by the power that Hitler has influenced the German people. These instances where words are described to have that much power have been translated to current times. In the book, the greatest thing that Liesel's foster parent can do for her is to give her a book called the word shaker. This sparks her interest in books and reading and also teaches her and the reader the power of words. Throughout the novel, you see how Liesel uses the words of her book to escape the realities of living in a wartime environment. Not only was she affected but she also uses the power of those words to connect to Max and to calm the citizens of the town during air raids. It is then that you see how words are capable of transporting people to a separate world. Many of us have all experienced one feeling that can only be felt when reading or listening to a moving speech. That feeling is the power that all words have when correctly put together a well-rehearsed thought. These thoughts have been known to transport people away from the harsh realities of today's world or to inspire people to make …show more content…
All you have to do to see people using words to for the harm of others is look into the life of many teenagers in America. Many teenagers consider and even commit suicide because there are other kids demeaning them and telling them they're worthless. In New York there was a student who texted his bully that he was going to "kill himself" and the bully ended up brushing if off and even encouraging him to do it. According to Fox News, the boy was told to take one of his precious shotguns and commit suicide. This, of course, is a tragic story but it truly shows the immense power behind words, even causing a young teen to end his own life. these cases often show even more so than actual cases of words doing
