While video games may contain harmful issues including the straining of the human eyes and may contain immense violence and cursing, forming delinquent behaviors, video games have played major benefits that impacted our society by developing children’s experiences, thus; being more skillful, increasing community involvement, and socially engaging players to work together to accomplish goals. The assumption of video games leads to an isolated child, but social skills are also developed while engaging video games. In addition, video games provide added benefit to the human mind and can cure or stabilize chronic diseases such as autism, ADHD, and depression. Researchers such as Carol Bruggers from the University of Utah have illustrated the effects of regular gaming on children diagnosed with illnesses like autism, depression, and Parkinson’s disease shows signs of improvement in the kid’s demeanor, proving positivity and resilience to their illness. The researchers from the University of Utah described the games as patient empowerment exercise video games (PE games.) The PE games are designed to improve resiliency and empowerment, causing the effect of a “fighting spirit.” Therapeutic video games such as PE games are pushed by multiple companies, non-profit organization, and academic centers, due to the effectiveness patients, which promote interaction and motivation for both the illness bearing patients and the medical staff. As technology develops further, video games are soon to replace medication, proving a better method to handle chronic and mental illness.
