Power Of Ignorance

As stated in Confuse Students to Help Them Learn "Confusion is a powerful force in education." To me, this is a pure example of Jennifer L. Roberts aimed for in her teaching strategy with her students in her article "The Power of Patience." She asked her students to stare at a single work of art of their choice for three hours. That alone caused the students to be confused. It also helped her students tremendously by opening their minds to the mystery of detail and deep understanding of the art piece they were looking at. Now everything is understood at first glance in result enhanced their learning capabilities.

In Chapter Four of Holler If You Hear Me by Gregory Michie, the author describes how some of the other veteran teachers in his education classes expressed their views on the disconnect between education theory and classroom reality. One such example of this disconnect is the theory of differentiated instruction. I have learned a lot about differentiated instruction in my Foundations Block classes this semester, since I had not previously heard of the concept. In theory, this practice is a great way to tailor instruction to each student’s individual needs, as well as encourage learning and exploration.…

Henry David Thoreau once stated in Civil Disobedience, “ I ask for, not at once no government, but at once a better government”(1). I agree with Thoreau. The american government is a government blinded by the past, hate, and ignorance. Slavery, the civil war, and muslims are each an example of those. Ignorance is not bliss.…

After graduating high school, I stepped away from the social class grade school had created. I distanced myself from people who had no drive for what could be, and lack of competence of what surrounds them. I strove to discover more in the realm of self realization and shine a light on the depths true beneficial interaction. Through this change of mind set I have since discovered that religion, ethnicity, political footing, and social class can be seen as social barriers. What matters, in my opinion, upon interacting with anyone is to reveal an honest, wholehearted compassion to understand what lies behind the social labels and portray cognition to discover the other party's true character.…

Ignorance: Bliss or Misery? Social justice has been a popular topic since humans began to establish their rights and freedoms. While social justice can serve to help protect those who have been robbed of their rights or unfairly treated, it can also provoke thought about the nature of society as a whole. By exploring social justice issues through various mediums, such as the movie Slumdog Millionaire, the song Flawless by Beyonce, or the graphic novel Deogratias by Jean-Phillipe Stassen, insight is given that shows a sad reality about social justice in our modern society- most people choose to only support a social justice issue if they are personally affected by it. In a period of strict intellectual censorship, Czech writer and playwright Vaclav Havel rebelled against the Czechoslovakian communist regime in the best way he knew how: by writing. An activist and dissident, Havel uses his essays and his plays to undermine the authority of the totalitarian communist government. In his 1978 political essay, The Power of the Powerless, Havel show his dissatisfaction with he calls the post-totalitarian system. He presents a moral argument against the system, that one can contribute to the toppling of the system by simply living the truth— living in tune with ones beliefs and values. He exposes the dichotomy between what the system says it is and what the system really is and urges people to not live “within…
