Power Lord Of The Flies Essay

Power is the skill for someone or something to have influence . Lord of the Flies by William Golding discloses a story of some schoolboys that are stranded on an uninhabited island during the time of war due to a plane crash. On the island, the boys live in a self-created society and selfmade rules while they hope to get rescued soon. Some boys have unique powers and knowledge to survive well in wild conditions. The discovery of the conch shell and Ralph’s organizational skills, Piggy’s glasses and his intelligence to Jacks bravery and hunting skills have provided the boys to go until they were rescued. “ So we need shelters as a sort of – home.” (Golding, 52) Ralph being an orphan for most of his life, has learned to self-organize and reflect like an adult from a young age. In this specific quotation, he expresses the need for huts for their protection from severe weather conditions. He makes sure that everyone contributes to the building process. He realizes that it’s vital to maintaining a civilized life and to give the little ones a place to call home where they could seek refuge from the beast thoughts. “We ought to draw a map.” (Golding, 27) Ralph also endorses the need for a map of the island, to make it easier for them and the boys haven’t yet explored the island. He has this realization of the suffering they had to undergo while going around and doesn’t want the others to go through the same. The map would guide them to tell where it’s safe to go and specific locations of places on the island. Ralph’s organization, as shown by his responsible behaviour towards building huts and drawing a map reveals his power in creating a better place to live for everyone which tends to be his
