Power: This word is vital because power on the island becomes unbalanced and chaos ensues. In the beginning of the book, Ralph tries to establish rules and order within the kids. Jack, however, is power-hungry and wants everyone to follow him. As the story progresses, Jack takes advantage of fear to gain followers. He manipulates them so that he can become the leader of everyone and so that he gets all the power.
