Social media is used by millions of people across the world (over two billion to be more accurate) in order to access popular social media sites such as Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, ect.. The popularity of social media has grown over the years and the number of social media profiles has increased as well. In this essay, it will discuss power corruption and how the power of social media can lead to a negative outcome. But on the other hand, social media can also have a neutral outcome and a positive outcome which will also be spoken about in the essay. To begin with, promotions on social media can be both positive and negative. Promotions can bring in money and promote businesses that are promoting good things such as promoting college and scholarships but can also promote drugs and alcohol. Also, the information on social media can have a positive and negative impact on society due to its credibility and accuracy. While a lot of information is posted on social media, not all of the information is found to be true, but people will believe it and they will assume it is true. Finally, on social media, there is less privacy which can result to being a good thing and a bad thing. On social media, there is less privacy because government has access and is able to know certain things which is good since the government will be able to track and find criminals. Although there is a negative impact that shows social media as being bad and a threat to our society, there is much more positivity about it. The main positive impacts that social media has on the society is that it opens many more opportunities to communicate with others, people are able to talk to large groups of people at once, important news alerts and announcements are able to be told to everyone in the community in all one place, and it is a good way to get teens and young people to get involved and alerted.
