In this scene Lady Macbeth has read about Macbeth’s plan to kill Duncan to become king, but she doesn’t believe that he will really go through with it and is willing to help Macbeth kill Duncan. Later on in the play, Lady Macbeth discusses the plan with Macbeth, but he is skeptical of failing, but then Lady Macbeth says, “We fail? But screw your courage to the sticking-place and we’ll not fail,” (Act I scn vii, ln 60-61). During the play, Malcolm receives news of how Macbeth is killing so many people and is furious and says, “Let’s make us med’cines of our great revenge, to cure this deadly grief,” (Act IV scn iii, ln 214-215). Malcolm then decides to go to war with Scotland to overthrow Macbeth and save his people, as stated, “Come, go we to the King. Our power is ready; our lack is nothing but our leave. Macbeth is ripe for shaking, and the pow’rs above put on their instruments,” (Act IV scn iii, ln 236-239).
