This inequality has influenced decisions in history which take a toll on current poverty. In present day India, most of the revenue generated are spent on warfare. This has been so since the separation of India and Pakistan in 1947. The reason for this split was the conflict and lack of understanding between the two major religions in the subcontinent, Hinduism, and Islam. But how exactly do these affect a person's employment and income? People of a certain caste or gender can get more preference for a certain job regardless of their competency and capability. This leaves the others with fewer opportunities, making the poor poorer and the rich richer. The eradication of such practices is of the utmost importance in the development and modernization of a country such as India.
Ways to reduce poverty & inequality
As per the Global Financial Integrity, third-world countries lost $6.6 trillion in illegitimate financial flows from 2003 through 2012, with outflows increasing at an average rate of 9.4% annually. Governments could also authorize and execute a national living wage for their workers. Low and uninhabitable wages are a result of worker disempowerment. Workers should acquire enough to support themselves and their families. Governments and companies should commit to responsible behavior and respect their workers. Resulting in reduced poverty.
