Poverty in the United States

Poverty is one of the most devastating and major issues in which the world faces every day. One does not realize how easy it is to fall into the poverty category. More than 1 million people live in poverty today. Poverty is being poor, unfit, and not being able to purchase the necessities in order to survive. The loss of a job, an illness, or a sudden death in a family can lead to poverty. Although many people say that poverty cannot be eliminated, I disagree because one can get a well-paying job, receive help from the government (government assistance), and start saving their money. Saving makes it easier for people to be able to afford their necessities such as their education, household things, and bills. According to Timothy Flake in Getting Unstuck: Why some people get out of poverty and others don’t, “savings can help a household navigate financial emergencies, place a deposit on an apartment in a safer community, or help finance the cost of higher education” (Timothy Flake qtd. in Michael De Groote). Savings can also help someone in the near future to get something that they really wanted in life. A habit of saving and budgeting can take you a long way in life in case something happens, for example, if one loses their job. Banks make it easier for people to save because one is able to open a savings account with no charge. They also manage your account in case someone tries to steal. Saving is the key to a successful life.
Three major ways to end poverty is to provide people with an affordable education, more job creations, and apprenticeships. People cannot afford things like their car, because of the expensive prices. We, as in the United States, have the advantage of resolving the immediate needs of one another and reducing poverty rates while preparing for the future. With a change of mindsets, and changes on the prices of our necessities, we can help move the poor from poverty into the middle class. Ending poverty is still in effect

By killing off poverty it will create the ability to strengthen our communities and even start to help rebuild the society. So many people may not realize it but poverty cost Oklahoma billions of dollars each year, so if the nation decides to end poverty it will allow citizens to pay less in taxes that go directly towards programs and services that only benefit the poor, “as of 2012, the United States taxpayers have spent over $22 trillion on poverty programs” (Rector,2014) Also, without poverty our society will have more job opportunities, and less minimum wage jobs as careers and by the creation of more jobs, it will increase economic growth and productivity. I have a solution using the business world that will make this group of impoverished people less susceptible to falling below the poverty line. This solution is, using people involved with business and have them help these people and tell them what to do with their money. Giving them tips on what to do with their money; where to save money in areas where dollars slip away. Also, give them ideas on what they should do if they find their situations getting better and looking towards the future.…
