IMPOTENT. PRIVATION. DISTRESS. Three words describing the low of the lower class. The world refers to it as Poverty. Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor. Poverty is not having access to school and not knowing how to read. Poverty is not having a job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time. Poverty is losing a child to illness brought about by unclean water. Poverty is powerlessness, lack of representation and freedom. I met face to face with this beast on my most occasional trip to one of the most overpopulated countries in the world, the Philippines. I chose to meet the people who live on the side streets to experience a day in the life of many of these people living in poverty. The walk wasn’t far, in fact, anywhere you walk in the area of the city I came for vacation was crowded/occupied with homeless people. Right when I arrived, the first thing I smelled is the trash that people discarded. Smell so horrifying, it was like eating a burrito full of beans. Kids were surrounding me asking me for food and or money. A few still had no clothes on. Their houses/shacks still have dirt on the floors where there were no manned floors to begin with. Still no grass growing. Just plain poverty at its finest.

I may have been the same person going into this situation, although my perspective on life changed. This directed me into a path I hope to be successful in.
All of the experiences I had in the Philippines led up to my realization that I could be a difference in the world in the future. I have taken upon the medical field path towards my future due to these experiences. In realization of this I take my school work more seriously and put myself on a path of success by studying more and doing my schoolwork more efficiently and effectively with more effort. I joined an art club for two years to strengthen my leadership. Also have been in the Unite n’ Inform club to get a better understanding on how the world works. My current enrolled courses are rigorous enough to challenge and prepare me for my future in college. These courses not only
