Bong Bong!Shake Shake!Wonderful noises fill your ears.You are sitting on the ground watching the Sun go down.As you watch you smell the delicious food cooking over a huge bon fire.You are at a potlatch hosted by the Northwest Tribes. A potlatch ,as you can infer, is pretty exciting.At the end of a potlatch everyone would get a gift.If you were important you would get a better gift ,like a canoe, but if you were less important you would get something simple like a cedar bark blanket.Potlatches can also be very important.For example, you would would have a potlatch if the chief's son was becoming chief and if you went that meant that you accepted him as the new chief.Even if you didn't go, you still accepted him.
