Potential Energy: The Law Of Conservation Of Energy

Decent Essays
Energy is a property of objects that can be converted in plenty of different forms or be transferred to another objects. Energy comes in these different forms that may seem different, but they all amount to the same thing. Energy is one of the true constants of universe because as long as the universe has been existent, energy was existent. Due to it being a true constant energy can never be created or destroyed, this is called the law of conservation of energy. This law states that the total energy in an isolated system remains constant, meaning that no energy can be gained or loosed but changed from one form to the other. For example a human subject would eat an apple for sustenance for breakfast, the subject’s body would transform that apple …show more content…
Exploring how machines utilizes a plethora of different types of energy forms, one could see how energy is used every day, and is in everything. Potential energy is stored energy as the result of its position. When an object is altered from its usual equilibrium position or is elevated over a relative position, the object is able to store energy by virtue of its position. For example, if a person has a bow in his hand and the string is at its normal state, it has zero potential energy. Once the string is drawn, the bow stores energy or builds potential energy relative to its equilibrium state or when the bow is at rest. For this type of electricity generate there is a specific type of potential energy that needs to be focused on, gravitational potential energy. Hydroelectricity is electricity generated from the movement of water. This renewable resource can come from dams to rivers. How it works is that a dam is built in or to stop the flow of water, the water is elevated giving it gravitational potential energy relative to the sea level. The dam contains shafts in which water is able to …show more content…
Light is electromagnetic radiation within a specific section on the electromagnetic spectrum. Light is just was visible to the human eye. With that said, radiant energy is the energy of gravitational and electromagnetic radiation. And when EM waves are absorbed by object it turns into heat, therefore when radiant energy is absorbed it’s converted into thermal energy. Focusing on solar-powered electricity one could how the energy is transformed and transferred through the system. Solar-powered electricity is just how it is said, electricity generated from exposure to sunlight. Using solar panels this how the process works. The radiant energy would come from the sun and get absorbed by the solar panels. In the panels contains Photovoltaics cells which converts the energy from the sun into electric energy. This happens because the cells uses the photons of the sunlight to excite the electrons into a higher state of energy, which give them the ability to act as charge carriers for an electric current. Radiant energy is not just used for electric generation, it is also used for heating. Aside from electrical generation, radiant energy can also be used for heating. The sun’s light is absorbed into the ground and the skin of animals and when radiant energy is absorbed into an object heat is created. Therefore, radiant energy the reason life can exist on Earth because without

According to the Oxford Dictionary, “energy” is defined as the “power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines.” By the Oxford’s definition we can see that there is a correlation between energy and industry. It can be confirmed by the role of coal in the Industrial Revolution, in Great Britain, late 1700s. Coal was the main energy resource utilized by industries during that time. Thus the development of the emerging industry was extremely dependent of the supply of coal.…

Hydroelectric energy is made from a turbine that turns falling water into mechanical energy; then that mechanical energy is turned into electric energy. This process helps produce electric energy from the kinetic energy of falling water. How does this process involve chemistry? It first begins with the mechanical energy of the water. Mechanical energy is all the energy that is put upon an object.…

Hydroelectric power sites use a dam to store river water in a reservoir. And the water released from that reservoir goes through a turbine, spinning it, which activates a generator to produce electricity. Hydroelectric power is a domestic source of energy, without relying on international fuel sources. Hydropower is fueled by water so it becomes a clean fuel source. These power sites are important because unlike power plants, they will not pollute the air and are better for the environment.…

Hydroelectric Energy Reliability Hydroelectric energy is utilized for many aspects of our daily life due to the huge amount of consumption required for things such as using an outlet. Hydroelectric energy is electricity produced by hydropower, which means it uses the gravitational force of falling or flowing water. However, there is debate regarding the reliability of hydroelectric energy as a renewable energy source since some organizations believe hydroelectric energy is actually doing more harm than good. These organizations say that hydroelectric energy is increasing global warming faster than fossil fuels and therefore should not be used as a main source. On the other hand, the National Hydropower Association (NHA) is a nonprofit organization…

Energy is the power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines. Energy is all around us and can be created from many things such as oil, natural gas, coal, wood, water, wind, and petroleum. Most industrial nations use fossil fuels, which are natural fuels formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms such as coal, natural gas and oil to be driving force that powers their modern industrial societies. These fuels are unable to be recreated, so the rate of consumption of these resources is at a staggeringly high rate. Non-renewable resources are finite, which means one we use them they are gone, and renewable resource are ones that are renewed by…
