Potato Brain: A Short Story

Of course not, he testified. I would never!
Blur was silent while her dad leaned in as if he was afraid that the walls could not only hear, but they could read lips as well. Then, he spoke to her.
Look, I don’t know squat about this stuff, he said with a little smile. I don’t know what’s right and what’s wrong, and you could be for all I know. What I do know is that you’re my daughter and it’s my job to stand by you and believe in you no matter what, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. From what my potato brain can comprehend, not killing anyone sounds a lot better than doing so, he added finally, and then he gave a small laugh. What I do want to make sure is that you speak properly when you’re talking about these things.
Blur nodded,

The flowers were there, but the children were not. She lead her father to where the eating area was, and she saw that they were not there either. Perhaps they went to work, she thought to herself. She was about to go back to her room, but then her father grabbed her arm in the way that he always grabbed it, lightly and not too forcefully.
When she turned around to see what he wanted, she saw the distress in his eyes, and she knew what he wanted. Of course, she couldn’t stay with him. She wanted to, but she knew what would happen if she wasn’t there, like how Kathy rioted those two times. Like a mother, she almost felt like she was responsible for her, in a way. She didn’t know why she did, but she did, and that was all that really mattered for her to make up her mind and decide what needed to be done. You can’t go back, said her dad, and then she gave a small sigh. I have to watch Kathy and make sure that she doesn’t do anything crazy, she said, lightly shaking off his grip as a way of showing that she was able to go and that she knew what she was

She looked back up at the stairs, longing to see that blonde hair of hers and those pale green eyes again more than anything, a pull to her that she couldn’t really describe other than a longing to see her again. At least let me see if she’s up there. She was about to go, but then her dad opened his mouth to say something, and then he closed it. She stopped, waiting for him to say what he wanted to say, and once he saw that she was waiting on him, he spoke. Okay, was all that he said, thought she knew that he wanted to say more to her. When she saw the look in his eyes, she knew that she shouldn’t rush anything, so she simply gave him a hug and a thank you. He hugged back for a few seconds, and even though she wanted to keep that embrace in place, she made her way up the stairs as fast as she

Jessica Risner Heather Ward English 1101-41 October 5, 2015 “Love You Forever” Literary Analysis One of my favorite stories to read to my daughter is “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch. The story is about a mother who sneaks into her son’s room, once he is sleeping, and sings a song to him. She sings to him these words “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be (pg. 14).” My favorite part about this story is that once her son is a teenager, and even a grown adult, she still sneaks into his room and sings her song to him.…

" he'd barked at Alecto when she'd taken a turn he didn't expect.…
