A lot of people say that having a baby is a beautiful thing, they also know being around a newborn isn’t fun. While being at home taking care of her newborn a woman is releasing hormones to her baby that’s why the maternal bonding process is very important. While this process is very important the CEO’s of these companies don’t see it that way. They feel it’s not their problem a woman decided to have a baby so she still needs to come to work if she wants to get paid. Though companies feel this way according to Kelsey Coffeey, “a 2013 study found the length of maternity leave has an effect on postpartum depression (PPD). When the statistics are broken down, going back to work before 3 months after having a baby nearly doubles the risk for PPD.” () Companies want women to rush back to work after having a baby, but how productive is she really going to be if she’s sick? Besides, it would cost the companies more in health care cost for postpartum depression then it would for paid maternity leave. The outcome of having to pay women for being on paid maternity leave would be a raise in the cost of products and laying off other employees. No one would be happy with this situation all for one woman who isn’t doing anything to be at home with her child. This isn’t fair to the men and the women who decided not to children, now they have to be punished for someone else’s action by not getting their appropriate pay. Women know that babies are expensive so if women need to decide if they can afford one before having a baby. If the money they’re using from their job is going towards bills how come, they don’t expect the landlord to skip rent for 3 months or the dealership to waive their car note for 3
