When someone is in a scary situation, or in danger, it’s completely natural to be afraid. The afraid feeling that is triggered during a dangerous situation allows the brain to make split-second decisions in the body to be able to defend against a threat or to avoid danger. The fight-or-flight response is a normal response meant to protect a person from harm or injury. When a person has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, their fight-or-flight reaction is altered, broken, or damaged. People with PTSD might feel stressed or scared even though they may not be in any danger at all. Young kids up to teenagers can have severe symptoms due to PTSD just like adults, but the symptoms they show may not be similar to the symptoms adults show. Younger children will wet the bed they sleep in, even though they have learned how to use a toilet. During recess and storytelling time, young children may demonstrate the frightening situation they encountered through an act, or a demonstration, or charades. It is possible that children will not remember how to speak, or forget what words to use when talking. Older children and young adults will show symptoms more similar to adults. Teenagers have a tendency to develop disrespectful personalities along with disruptive and destructive behaviors. Thinking of ways to get their revenge on something or someone and feeling guilty for someone getting hurt and being sad that they could not prevent what happened is common in children who are soon to be teenagers, and teenagers who are soon to be
