PTSD, also known as post traumatic stress disorder is a disorder which may develop after a person is exposed to a traumatic event such as, the war.. Post traumatic stress disorder is becoming more and more common in our recent generation. Due to recent wars and conflicts, many American soldiers were sent to countries such as, Afghanistan and Iraq where they experienced horrifying events like, bloodshed it has caused many veterans to suffer with post traumatic stress disorder. “The conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have resulted in thousands of military personnel returning home psychologically damaged and wounded. Estimates indicate that approximately 20% of these military personnel will develop posttraumatic stress disorder” (Margolies, Rybarczyk, Vrana, Leszczyszyn and Lynch, 1). PTSD diagnosis may be given with a group of symptoms, such as, “somatic and anxious/ depressive symptom” (Marsanic, Margetic, Jukic, Matko, Grgic, 2), insomnia, chronic nightmares “disruptive family environments, marital instability, familial psychopathology, and behavioral maladjustment in veterans’ children” (Marsanic, Margetic, Jukic, Matko, Grgic, 2). “Further, researchers (Krakow, Hollifield, et al., 2001) posit that both daytime and nighttime disturbances in adaptive functioning may interfere with the processing of a traumatic event as well as increase symptoms of anxiety.This led us to evaluate the psychological impacts amongst veterans” (Margolies, Rybarczyk, Vrana, Leszczyszyn and…
