I was assigned into a group of 3 people to work on a case study on an elderly patient who showed-up into the ER who had an ischemic stroke that is caused by an occlusion of a cerebral artery. During this group case study, I have learned so much about the critical care of older adult, such as the relationship of stroke and cardiovascular diseases (a-fib), complications of stroke, and the nursing critical implications of caring for older adult who suffers from cerebrovascular events.
Upon assessment of the case, and based on the presenting signs and symptoms of the patient when she came into the ER, N.T a 79-year, complained of mild headache over the right side of the head, was fatigued, and slightly exhausted, and lacking-of physical strength and energy (case study hand-out). Physiologically and diagnostically it is evidently that patients with lesions in the right hemisphere often show signs of left unilateral neglect, a disabling impairment in orienting and responding to events occurring on the left side of space.
