1. Georgia Institute of Technology is where students attend if they want a valuable post- secondary education. I want to be one of those individuals who can receive my diploma and honestly be able to say that every hour and penny spent on my education was worth it. This summer, I had the opportunity to attend the CEISMC Summer Peaks program; I participated in Architectural Design Through Physical Modeling. The CEISMC Summer Peaks Program was chosen because I wanted to discover how my passion for art and sciences would coincide with the field of architecture. It was discovered that art not only can be incorporated into architecture and design, but the study of architecture uses creativity, history, and technology to solve challenging problems

I still remember when I was seven years old and how my grandpa would come visit my grandma once or twice a week. I would be so happy to see him because he would always call me over and sit me down next to him so that we could watch the history channel together. We would sit there for hours and watch documentaries on everything imaginable. One documentary that I will never forget is one that we watched that was talking about how the Romans built the Colosseum and their aqueducts. That was when I first realized that I liked designing and how I liked seeing how buildings were designed and built.…

Epictetus a Greek-born philosopher was born a slave. He said, “Only the Educated are free.” Unfortunately, Epictetus did not predict that even the basics of education would not be free in the future. With the cost of post-secondary studies at an all-consuming high, and ever getting higher, many people find it hard to cope in a society where education is necessary but not available to everyone. The high cost of tuition affects not only current and future students, but their families, the labour market and Canada as a whole.…

The claim I am making for my Op-ed piece is that abroad offices in universities need to promote and encourage students to study abroad. This is because students who study abroad overwhelmingly experience benefits in their personal development. The audience for my Op-ed will be students that are questioning if they should study abroad. Many students expressed interest in study abroad earlier in their academic career. When it was time to study abroad, many could not because their majors would not allow them to go or they were too busy that they did not view study abroad as a beneficial experience but as an experience that conflicts with their studies.…

Unfamiliar Nature David Ruy's practice explores the contemporary design problems at the intersection of architecture, nature, and technology. In this essay ‘Returning to (Strange) Object,’ Ruy talks about his position towards nature as an architect. The essay advocates for the diminishing role of the architect and also that the architects desire to establish its roots outside its scope is leading to irreversible self-inflicting damage to its authority. To do so, the author first presents our current notion of the nature as the ultimate milieu. For the architect, nature has always been an inspiration and also a force that challenges its limitation.…

Introduction: Take a second to consider what is more helpful to Canada and its citizens: Canada spending tax revenues paid by Canadian citizens on the first two years of post secondary education, or spending tens of billions of dollars on a war machine that is not even useful to us. That’s right, the Canadian government is planning on using up to $50 billion of tax money earned by the citizens on new war machines, even though there is currently no threat to Canada, the last being over two centuries ago. Does it not make more sense to provide Canadians education that could lead them to strengthening our economy? This is why I think the first two years of post secondary education should be free; the amount of debt/people with debt will be cut…

In this paper, I argue that neo-liberal policies effect post-secondary education in Canada. I determine what the barriers are and how we can overcome them. I will look at the rise of tuition, disability and cultural differences to see if they aid as a barrier. Post-Secondary education in Canada has become very demanding the last couple of years. Many students want to pursue careers and get an education that helps them in the future, from a neoliberalist approach young people have to “chase credentials” to gain security in future education (Lakes & Carter, 2011).…
