A Reflective Essay On A Cookie Class

English 1303 was filled with many activities consisting of the writer 's toolbox, vocabulary logs, different rhetorical essays, timed writings, presentations, and, much more. I vividly remember the assignment that was introduced to us as the “cookie rubric.” Our assignment was to create a rubric based off the characteristics, texture, appearance, taste, and smell of cookie. It was honestly one of the most constructive assignments I have done, due to the fact that I had to be so precise with each characteristic. I favored this piece of work, because I had a sense of what my Professor has to do in order to construct a rubric for her students. I especially love this, for the fact that we even tested our rubrics through an actual cookie test, which was a yummy addition. A triumph for me in this class would be my Cause and Effect essay. I recall frantically doing my essay the day of and before Halloween just so I could submit it to turn it in and receive feedback (feedback is a gift). I …show more content…
I do not regret taking this class, I have benefitted from it even when I thought I wouldn’t. A piece of advice I am handing off would be, to be sure to turn in your assignments on time. Planning ahead is key especially in life. From my personal experience, never hesitate to let your Professor know that you won’t be attending class, especially, when a paper is due the same day. That right there is ten points off your paper, a lesson I learned that could’ve earned me a one hundred. Lastly, I advise you to be prepared to put forth hard work, because it truly does pay off at the end. In relation to McCandless quote, this class is just one of the many “horizons” you will face in your college career, with new ones to uncover throughout your lifetime. The new learning experiences you face are a chance express yourself and find yourself

It was the year of 2014 going into 2015 and I was an eighth grader. This was my second year attending Bennett Academy charter school. My English language arts teacher, Ms. Walton, had told to my classmates and me that in mid-November we will begin to start our huge assignment. That assignment was to be completed before the graduation date of May 21st, 2015. Ms. Walton told us that we need to have at least fifty pages and no less.…

At the beginning of the semester I was somewhat intimated by the amount of course work that was expected of each student in this class. However, as time went on and I started to complete the assignments, it became clear how useful many of them were, particularly the resume and the career exploration paper. Both of these assignments were beneficial in their own way, despite the time and effort that went in to completing them according to the instructions. The resume and subsequent critiques from multiple sources yielded a professional document that is flawless and ready to be disseminated to potential employers after a minor customization to it based upon the job description and requirements. The career exploration assignment has taught me how…

A child came up to me today and ask me if he swallows a cookie what all happens to it. Once it enters the mouth, chemical and mechanical steps work to break the cookie into smaller pieces and remove its nutrients for use by the body. Tracing the digestion of a cookie involves a quick trip down your esophagus, a churn in the stomach and a slow, winding movement through the intestines. The Mouth…

Before this course, I did not know grammar well, and what I did know I did not fully understand. Yet, due to taking the course, I learned more about the structure of the English language, and can use grammar better than I did before. For instance, the first three major assignments were filled with missing comas, verb-tense misuses, and run-on sentences. Now, I may still make mistakes, but I know why I have made them. In other English courses, I had grammar homework and reading assignments that, often, seemed to be busy work, but with this course, I did not think that was the case.…

To be honest, I like all the academic classes I’ve taken. AP Chemistry and AP Calculus are two of my favorites because they were classes in which I had to work hard to maintain a good grade and actually understand the material. Also, I enjoyed AP Comparative Government because I liked learning about the government and politics of foreign countries. However, the class that has influenced me the most was “Journalism.”…

The series from National Public Radio named This I Believe has many essays that would be beneficial for any students to read and analyze. One essay that stuck out of all the others spoke of a Rubik Cube and the problems of language. In the essay “Accomplishing Big Things in Small Pieces,” William Wissemann address the problems he had with reading and writing due to him being dyslexic. If ENGL 1301 students were to study the essay, they would see Wissemann using rhetorical devices like anecdote, thesis, and analogy.…

To me, being invisible is like having an unlimited supply of your favorite cookie. In the beginning, you start slow, you are reasonable with your cookie consumption. You eat the cookie maybe after a meal as dessert but later you can 't get enough of the cookie. Eating one leads to another being consumed, which in turn leads to another, and all of a sudden, several months later, you’ve gained several pounds, probably have some type of sugar problem, and just the thought of a cookie will make you sick to your stomach. At first, glance, having Gyges’s ring seems like nothing could go wrong, but having too much of something can have it’s adverse effects.…

When I first decided to take this class I wasn't really sure what to expect. One huge difference I noticed between High School and Columbus State is the self accountability. I have discovered I have a slight procrastination issue. At the start of the semester it seemed as though the first papers deadline came out of nowhere. I got better with handling my deadlines as we wrote more papers, but I still procrastinated more than I should have.…

English 106 was the first real college class that I ever stepped foot in, and because of that, I was extremely nervous and unsure. The English teachers at my high school always said that the papers they assigned were held to college standards, and I always did well on those assignments, but I was still unsure about this course. I expected this course to be loaded with reading and writing assignments that would make me pull all-nighters on a regular basis. After going through English 106, I realized that there were not too many assignments and that I learned a lot from each one. To me, the most salient parts of this course were the discourse community paper, the annotated bibliography, the art analysis, peer reviews, revisions, and reflections.…

English Composition I taught me a lot about myself, including how to be a better college student, through the process of writing. At the beginning of the year, I was not very excited about having to write argumentative papers. This is because I did not care enough about the assigned topics to have an opinion. But, I did learn a lot that I would not have known otherwise from having to research information about the topics I chose to write about. For example, in paper #2, I wrote about the niqab and how I believe that it is oppressive to women.…

Was able to be a lot more creative and think outside of the box and papers, I learned that some things work really well and some stuff I tried did not.
