Upon listening to “Sheep, Sheep, Don’t You Know the Road” by Bessie Jones I immediately recognized the African American music traits. The song plays like a gospel choir in which, there is a verse by one singer, then followed by one by a group. In the background, you can hear stomps, although this is quickly subdued by the loud clapping rhythm. This clapping is called the “offbeat” and is known to be used in African American vocal music to create a “drumbeat”(Candelaria & Kingman 18).…

Pop culture 's mythology theory, discovered by a Frenchman named Roland Barthes, appears in many forms of media today. An example of this would be The Legend of Zelda, in which Link must rescue the land of Hyrule similar to how many Greek heroes had to save the world. People use mythology theory every day and don 't even realize it. From naming their dog Zeus after the Greek god of lightning to watching the anime Hetalia to understand history and cultures better. One movie that uses this theory is the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou? directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.…

On the contrary, Roald Dahl uses familiarity to initiate suspense in ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’. For example, the quote of “warm and clean, the curtains draw”, a familiar setting of a loving home gives a comfortable feeling but at the same time, it makes the audience anticipate what is going to be the outcome of the story. The wording of “warm” makes it feel like a home full of love and tenderness, which makes it creepier to expect something to happen. In addition to that, this point can also be seen in the quote of “ran upstairs to the bedroom”. Running to our most comfortable place in the house when you’re upset is a common thing to do, which makes it even more eerie and horrifying.…
