Continuing one's education is often required but in other occupations, it is not needed. I want to work in museums. To work in such institutions I need a degree in museum studies or education, in order to be considered for employment opportunities. Similar requirements are needed in medical fields or in business environments. In some scenarios, more education such as a doctorate or other certificates is needed which would require more planning. Within graduate programs is where students learn specific skills for their desired career. During undergraduate curriculums, the student often gathers a foundation in skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, and writing. Now an additional step is taken to sharpened and expand one's skill set to better serve the field one wishes to enter. Medical programs for nurses, pharmacists or doctors are strong examples of this idea. With a background of chemistry or biology students go forward to a specific track such as trauma, oncology or even research based. This, in turn, helps with job placement. Being trained in a specific field makes one more desirable for a job that few are trained to perform.
