Historians have discussed what to call the time period between 500 CE and 1400 CE, in Europe, for years. It began with the fall of the Roman Empire, which lead to feudalism after years of unrest. Although architecture, literature and art advanced and flourished during this time, it was still a period of darkness in which the Roman Catholic Church provided spiritual and non-religious guidance. All of these characteristics lead to names such as the Age of Faith, The Dark Ages, A Golden Age or the Age of Feudalism. Post-Classical Europe should be remembered as the Dark Age of Faith because the Roman Catholic Church dictated the culture and politics of European society, and thus led European civilization to regress and develop limited reforms
