My sci-fi paper will consist of the possible future scenario where a rogue black hole comes into our solar system swallowing our sun and brings darkness to all of human kind. It will follow a group of survivors that were able to get off the planet in an attempt to get to the nearest star. Leaving behind a slowly dying planet. They are met with a number of challenges. The most pressing being the increasing emission in solar weather produced by the black hole’s accretion disk, they constantly need to fix the solar electric sail that not only produces the main source of propulsion it is also responsible for energy production for the craft and the main shilling device for the astronauts,

The harmful radiation in space is divided into two types, massive and massless radiation. Both can have high energy associated with them, Gamma rays are the most energetic form of massless radiation. When it comes to massive radiant the sun mostly emits protons with a scattering of alpha rays and betta rays. With proton emission having speed of nearly a 1/3 of the speed of light. These can cause substantial damage to humans specifically the weak hydrogen bounds in DNA [2]. The largest source for this kind of radiation would be a Coronal mass ejection that can travel at nearly a tenth the speed of light (3,000 km/s) Along with the high energy protons, these coronal mass ejections eject free elections and neutrons in a magnet field. [1]Since these partials have mass as well as a charge there are a number of means to prevent them from reaching the inside of the space …show more content…
These events are also coupled with massive particle radiation created by the same fluxes in the sun’s magnetic field. These massive forms of radiation accelerates at a rate of a third of C the time span of three second according to Michael Briggs, a member of GBM team at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
[4]
Since these gammas rays that come from a solar storm are the first sign of the event [5] whatever solitons that are implemented to shield from electric magnetic radiation needs to be sustainable continuously throughout any prolonged extra-terrestrial journey.
When it comes to shielding methods, there are two main mechanisms each with its own unique advantages and tradeoffs. The simplest form of shielding is increasing the chances of the running into a particle that will absorbed its’ energy. This absorption works best when the particle and the radiation are of similar size. Hydrogen rich materials are ideal for shielding not just protons but also neutrons since there massive are close to being identical. The fact that

The dangers of ionising radiation: all ionising radiation can cause damage to live cells and this means that the living cells would either day or can become into cancerous cells. This happens because ionising radiation can break molecules into bits called ions however this mean that these ions could take place in chemical reactions in the living…

Medicine Changed by Radiation Radiation has changed over the years and wasn’t even known to be used in medicine until after it was used in the military in World War II. It was discovered by a German scientist but then the possibilities of all the things it could be used for was discovered by a Polish-born French scientist. Radiation changed medicine for the better by killing off cancerous, disease ridden germs and cells, this is significant because it changed the way we look at treatment. In 1895, radiation had just been discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a professor at Wuerzburg University in Germany. ("History of Radiography").…

For deep space missions, unfortunately, shielding alone will not guarantee protection to the precious cargo which is our human beings manning the space craft. Some situations in deep space will have very high energy ions and production of secondary particles which properties can be highly penetrative. These factors would put constraints on the spacecraft and many uncertainties on the wellbeing of the biological beings onboard. There is a scientist by the name of Youngquist who is studying how feasible a radiation shield that relies on electrostatic charge would be to ward off harmful high-energy particles before they reached a manned spacecraft. Youngquist envisions a spacecraft equipped with a multiple…

D1 X-ray spectrum: X-rays are created when a component is attacked with high energy electron. So when a high energy electron attacks the target electron in an atom it, this leads to the target electron being ejected from the inner shell of the atom. Whereas bremsstrahlung radiation is when radiation is given off by a particle that is charged, usually an electron, because of acceleration which is caused by another charged particle, usually an atomic nucleus. The x ray beam from an x ray is modified to suit the needs The x-ray beam given off an x-ray tube may be changed to suit the needs of the use by changing the following: Tube Voltage (kVp): The alteration of tube voltage affects both quality & intensity.…

Memories guide our past and our present, allowing us to reflect on earlier times as well as build up preconceived notions of future events. However, memories are fickle. They can easily become lost and distorted, and the loss of these memories can have adverse effects on generations to come. In The Once and Future World, MacKinnon delves into the implications that “simply forgetting” can have on the world we live in. The evidence that we are destroying the natural world at an unnerving rate is immense and undeniable, and MacKinnon places a source of blame on a form of denial he calls “the act of forgetting itself.”…

Argument Essay Against Space Exploration Mia Lenning 3/15/2018 The United States of America is a very wealthy country that spends our tax money on important things, space exploration is not one of those things. Space exploration is just a waste, it is definitely less important than hunger and poverty. It's not just something we don't need it, it's also a very dangerous mission. Space exploration can also lead astronauts to chronic boredom.…

Do CellPhones Affect The Brain? There has been rumors going on saying that phones are dangerous but are they really dangerous, I think phones are not dangerous because it was not proven yet that phones have an harmful effect on people. A researcher named nora volkow , a brain researcher what’s to know whether phones have an effect on people or does not have an effect on people because there has been new studies showing how cell phones can affect the metabolism of the brain cells. There was another study saying that phones can have an effect on human skin and other parts of the body also do know that phones are said to cues most of the car accidents by being a discussion to the driver. One reason why i think cell phones are not dangerous is because Nora Volkow (a researcher of the brain) did a test to see if phones have an effect on the brain.…

Humanity needs to travel the stars for survival purposes because the Earth is more fragile than it appears. Additionally, human aggression could easily destroy the planet faster than the Sun 's rising temperatures could. Consequently it is theorised that the sun will eventually cause the extinction of all sentient life on earth the reasoning behind this is that the sun is getting hotter due to the fact that it is burning up more hydrogen than it can sustain which causes the sun to gain more heat this is seen often in stars of which our sun is one, it is theorised that the sun will wipe out sentient life in 1 – 3 billion years ' time. Furthermore, there is a significantly high chance that human aggression could wipe out humanity faster than a heatwave from the sun, this is evident in the rising aggression between America, Russia and North Korea all who have the power to destroy the Earth with the push of a…

“What he noted was that although most of the particles passed right through the gold foil, a very small percentage (approximately 1 in 8000) would "bounce back". What exactly did this imply?”(The Discovery of Radioactivity). This, in mister Rutherford`s head, meant that matter was made of empty space, but there is a tiny dense portion of matter that deflects particles. His discovery led to the universally accepted atom model. Not only did the discovery of radiation find a new source or energy but it also helped shape the atom as we know…
