Why I chose Recreation and Leisure Services:
Ever since I was little I’ve always had the desire to work with people, but never really knew exactly what I wanted to do. Over the years I realized things I’ve liked and disliked which has given me ideas of different routes I should be looking for a career in. I’ve always loved the elderly and with visiting my Great Grandmother who was in a home I had the urge to want to work at a retirement home at the age of 14. At the age of 17 after planning and running a Relay for Life for the Canadian Cancer Society, it gave me the idea of wanting to work for a non-profit organization like the Canadian

This department is responsible for the delivery of recreation, leisure and cultural opportunities that create healthy communities and engaged citizens (“Recreation & Culture Services, n.d.). There are four different divisions in this department they are: Programs and Facilities, Facility Operations, Centralized Recreation Services and Culture. Each division is responsible for something, the program and facilities is responsible for management of fitness and leisure programs at City of Oshawa recreation facilities, facility operations is responsible for physical operation of all recreation facilities, centralized recreation services is responsible for the promotion and coordination of special events, engagement, any volunteer management and community outreach, and culture is responsible for leading the implementation of the culture counts which include Oshawa Art’s and Culture and Heritage Plan (“Recreation & Culture Services, n.d.). Important impacts to consider when deciding this as a career choice would be the variety of settings this career would have you in, all settings would be in Durham Region but no events setting would be the same, working for the City of Oshawa is also close to home which is an important impact to consider. Also something to think about is, this job will have many challenges like all planning careers do, things will never go perfectly and there will always be some problem that may arise, making sure this is a job I can handle is important so I don’t burnout. This job will constantly have changes no event will be the same which is a benefit because with a continual change it keeps professionals more alert and excited for the next job. There are many responsibilities a professional would have to take on in this career being in charge recreation facilities and running events is another impact to consider this as a career

When I was in high school, I wanted to be a speech-language pathologist in order to help people exercise their right to speak. I have always observed that I am not the type of person who functions well in an inactive environment. I learn best by doing, and I cannot sit still and watch someone else do it for me.…

Being a first generation college student, I did not know that I could have a career conducting research or that I could have a profession that inspired me in the way that conducting research has thus far. I would like to pursue graduate education because despite my collection of research experiences and my education in statistics and research methods, I know that there is a realm of skills that I do not currently possess that are necessary to conduct higher level research. Study at a university like the University of Tennessee will not only provide me the quality education needed to conduct research but it will connect me to individuals who will help to open avenues previously closed to me. I have always wanted to do something that would change the world and I understand that is a lofty goal, but if I could use my talents and passions to help just a few people, then I would feel accomplished.…

For four years during my undergrad I had the privilege of studying Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. When I started college, I believed that I would be pursuing a career in the museum world as a curator or in museum administration. However, my interests in the justice system along with my background in Anthropology conflicted with that goal of working in a museum setting until I found that I could have a career involving both of my areas of study. My experiences both personal and academic have made me consider a different career choice which allows me to work for the government with my Anthropology background as a forensic anthropologist. Growing up in a small town located in central Minnesota was very boring and there was not much to do for fun.…

This career is very demanding since managers are the ones that manage the staff and are needed to make sure tasks are going smoothly. They are like gas in a vehicle, without gas you wouldn’t be able to start or move the vehicle to take you were you need to go and that’s what health care mangers do. The duties can be many things from traveling, conventions for health care managers on new things that can shape healthcare systems, meetings with staff and people above them, and many telephone calls. They improve healthcare services not just for patients but for the facility they work for, as an example a hospital has to abided by the laws and be up to date on health codes, if there are not they can be fined and that would not be good for business. It could reflect on how people see a health manager run their services.…
