Although I do see positives in my teaching the negatives are the most prominent. I understand the counting on strategy and use it often in addition, however when it came to understanding how to teach the topic I lacked the proper knowledge and preparation needed. I was unable to properly explain the topic to my peers which lead to confusion during the lesson. The activity was also not concrete based and involved worksheets that in hindsight I believe even with my attempted explanation would be too complex for a year two student to understand especially when I had only planned for them to have ten minutes to complete them. I also should have made the lesson more interactive and fun as the students got bored quickly and I was unable to keep them on task, my behavior management needs to be improved as it really affected my confidence and had a negative effect on my teaching. …show more content…
I would make it more concrete and use a more ‘hands on approach as both Vygotsky and Piaget highlight the importance of interaction with the environment. I would have set out behavior standards with consequences for misbehavior. I would make the activity more interesting instead of just using two worksheets, as I believe it would help reduce misbehavior as the students would not be bored. Lastly I would do more research in understanding how to teach the strategy
