Eliezer M. Van Allen (2011) studied the effect of positive thinking in positive psychology. His studies say that positive thinking can be a crucial part of being a patient. For it provides relief for not only the patient but also his or her families. Even though the negative things have been increasing they are still able to have the strength face it together. In the movie The Fault in Our Stars (TFIOS) we can see that Hazel the main actress was deeply captivated by the book written by Peter Van Houten. She even said “He’s the only person I’ve ever come across in my life who understands what it’s like to be dying and hasn’t actually died” (TFIOS, Boone, 17.16). This shows that she has the positive thinking that someone in this world understands and knows her feelings. With this positive thinking she was able to endure the tough times she had. Another research by Katie Nicholson shows that both optimism and positive illusion contributes to positive psychology movement. Carver and Scheier (1990) stated optimism as cognitive, emotional, and motivating. In the movie TFIOS we can see that Hazel was filled with joy and excitement after she saw the reply from Van Houten. She was even invited to go over if she ever finds herself in Amsterdam. It was like one of her lifelong wish has come true. With this optimism and positive thinking gives her the strength to endure through her illness in order to not let the chance to slip
