Positive Reinforcement

I believe that discipline is unique to each student and classroom. I believe that there should be the basic classroom rules that establish a respect for peers and adults and maintain safety. If the school had a Schoolwide Positive Behavior Intervention Plan, then the class rules should correlate with the school’s SW-BIP. Most children respond well to positive reinforcement. I have incentives within my classroom for positive daily behavior individually as well as for the entire class. I use a daily color chart for behavior which the parents sign each night. When a student has ten days signed they get to pick out of the prize box. I also have a marble jar. When the class is working well, or is complimented at a special or at lunch they receive

Good morning, Thank you for your quick response. I appreciate your willingness to share how you implement a plan at home for Caleb as well as discussing with Caleb how he can improve on his social-emotion learning at school. It seems like Caleb is motivated to demonstrate a cheerful attitude when completing a task through earning stickers at home for a reward on the weekend. I would like to begin implementing the positive reinforcement plan we discussed with him at school beginning this Monday. It seems as though you, Mrs. Danysh, and Caleb have discussed a motivating reward for him at home (earning money for a savings account).…

When asked to reflect on a time that I challenged a belief or idea I can think of one or two incidents in my life. This happened not to long ago with my school. We started this new program called Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support (PBIS). This program is a new idea or belief that enforcing positive behavior with prizes or rewards will bust over all school behavior or just behavior in student in general. At my school we are rewarded red tickets by and at teacher discretion.…

In the case of Neddy's mother, should apply to her child positive reinforcement is commonly understood as giving the child something he or she likes when the child does something well. From my perspective, when the child works on, which I think is good, get a lot of good things for him: self-confidence, because its advance only owes itself develops skills: creativity, autonomy, have control of their work, working on what he likes, what he wants, growing interest, motivation, work provides quality relationships with those around you, without manipulation, without competition.…

Part 1 In my College Algebra class, every test we have we are rewarded with five bonus points. The five bonus points are added onto our test grade if we have not missed class more than three times that semester. This positive reinforcement has made me want to be present everyday for class because I know I will get the five bonus points if I do not miss this class. However, if I do miss class more than three times I will not receive the five bonus points on the test.…

Often operant behaviour is described as wilful, voluntary, free or intentional. The term operant is derived from the verb to operate which refers to behaviour that operates on the environment to produce consequences that subsequently strengthen the behaviour (BB). Reinforcement refers to the presentation or removal of a stimulus which results in an increase in the future frequency of a behaviour (Gilbert). Reinforcement can be either positive or negative. Behaviour-analytic research has identified conditions that cause reinforcement to be increasingly effective or allows behaviour to become more resistant to extinction.…

Positive reinforcement is the process of receiving acknowledgment, praise, or a desirable event resulting from a particular action or behavior. An example is getting a bonus after meeting goals or receiving recognition for going above and beyond. Positive reinforcements can also be viewed as incentives that encourage or motivate a person to continue or advance the behavior that is getting rewarded and or acknowledged. Positive reinforcement can be observed throughout the Kern County Crisis Hotline, as I have provided my co-workers with positive reinforcement and have observed positive reinforcement frequently during my applied experience. There is recognition given when a caller completes appropriate forms or is successful in assisting a…

The teacher spoke in a soft voice while still being firm and direct. After reading the direction of the lesson the teacher asked the students questions to make sure they understood the concept she was teaching and see their level of understanding. The teacher made an effort to spread her questions around to all the students and her instructional aides passed out money which is part of the token economy system that is used in our program as part of our positive reinforcement strategy. I could see the staff modeling encouraging behavior for the students who made an effort.…

In the past two decades, interest levels in using positive reinforcement to train animals has peaked and has resulted in more studies being released to support the fundamental ideas behind it. According to the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, “Positive reinforcement training has also been shown to improve the social dynamics in primate social groups and, in some cases, to reduce abnormal behavior patterns. Positive reinforcement training increases voluntary cooperation, reduces fear, engages the animals’ ability to learn, and increases their control over their environments.”…

Within limits, discipline is a crucial aspect of Love and Logic; but should be viewed as what teachers can do with students rather than what teachers can do for them. When disciplining a student, the student must realize he still has rights as a student and as an individual. If a student believes his rights are being dishonored then he will not respond as positively to the teachers requirements. Having control of the disciplinary situation involves teachers understanding things from the perspective of the student. Teachers need to be aware that a student will try to shift the blame to anyone but himself.…

After considering how much my personality has evolved over the years, I’ve come to the conclusion that there are several instances where reinforcements and punishments were the contributing factor for these changes. For instance, when I was younger I did very well in school, usually making the A-honor roll. In order to strengthen this behavior, my dad implemented a positive reinforcement of 20 dollars for every class that I passed with an A. Although this positive reinforcement was only valid until I graduated high school, I continued to do well in school since I had already become so accustomed to it. Despite the success that I had in school, there were some undesirable traits that I exhibited when communicating with other individuals. For…

Something that made me angry in the past month was in regards to a trip that I was supposed to go on with my friend and her mom this Summer. We had to go to a travel agency in order to coordinate the trip and be able to put a down payment to secure our place. However, they would vacillate in the days we would be going to the travel agency and would always cancel. They would say we would go the next day, the day would come and the same thing would happen. I do not become angry often, but this became extremely frustrating because I change my plans during February break in order to accommodate the time to go with them to the travel agency.…

According to Kohn, if student are allowed to learn what they want to when they want to they will have no reason to misbehave. In respect to a standard based classroom in 2016, the most useful aspects of Kohn’s theory is it takes students ideas and thoughts into consideration. The downfall of Kohn’s theory are that there are no consequences in place if misbehavior were to occur and the teacher does not have 51% of the power in the classroom. The major concept that I would explore in this assessment is the work of Skinner and his Operant, Instrumental and Respondent Conditioning, which looks at the different types of reinforcement and punishment for a child in a way that removes the behaviour by shifting contingencies and changes the reinforcement and punishment. Firstly, when looking at “Positive Reinforcement”, is the addition of pleasurable stimulus that increases the likelihood of a desirable behaviour being performed. Within Positive reinforcement, the reinforcement can be: fixed internal reinforcement schedule, variable interval reinforcement schedule, and Ratio reinforcement schedule. In contrast, there is “Negative reinforcement” which looks at the removal of a painful stimulus…

Within the discipline of education there are many specific areas one may choose to research. These topics can range from teaching styles to the psychological effects of mainstreaming special needs children into the classroom. For an undergraduate in the field of education one must figure out what they would like to know more about and how to properly research their chosen topic.
