For my peer evaluation, I assessed Carolyn Sutherland who is a history major here at Cal Poly. Her first speech was informative about what you can do with a history major and why it appealed to her. In Operant Conditioning some factual points that stood out to me were two-forms of positive and negative reinforcement and punishment. With the use of positive and negative reinforcement to increase or decrease a behavior could be rewarding in molding behaviors in most cases. With the use of operant conditioning, this could also be a great tool to use outside of the classroom. Part 1 In my College Algebra class, every test we have we are rewarded with five bonus points. The five bonus points are added onto our test grade if we have not missed class more than three times that semester. This positive reinforcement has made me want to be present everyday for class because I know I will get the five bonus points if I do not miss this class. Preschool Health History Observing healthy children at Crossroads Preschool was a thrilling and eye opening experience. In the four-year-old classroom with Mrs. Birch, there was quite an array of physical, mental, and social developments. During third grade, Children are really growing up. They have now experienced a couple years of elementary school and have learned the basic milestones of being children. My shadow took place within Mrs. Stevens’ third grade classroom. When I arrived the students were working within four different groups focused on the world-class outcome of creating meaning strategically in reading, writing, listening and speaking. The first group was working on vocabulary words that were written on cards, the second group was playing educational games on Slumdog, the third group was reading the previously learned vocabulary words within a story with the teacher, and the last group was drawing and writing out T-shirt designs for their recycle program.…
When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Reflection of Class Lesson The teaching methods that I used in my lesson incorporated a variety of the Universal Design for Learning Principles and co-teaching strategies, which supported all of the students in the classroom, including students with disabilities and exceptionalities.
