In many ways, the school administrator can use operant conditioning to manage student behavior. In the classroom, positive reinforcement should be the primary way in managing the students’ behaviors. Positive reinforcement in the classroom can come in many forms. Using a behavior chart is an efficient way to make positive reinforcement available to all students. A behavior chart should include every student’s name and places for them to put stickers whenever the students answer a question correctly. Another form of positive reinforcement that a school administrator can do to promote students’ participation in the classroom, especially to secondary students, is to give praise to the student who actively answers the questions that are raised in class and ask questions regarding to the lesson. The school administrator does not only praise the student for doing the right thing, which is participating in class, but also indicates to the other students of what the expected behavior is. Using verbal praise is a subtle but incredibly effective way to let students know what is expected of them throughout the day. The school administrator can also reward extra credits as treats for the student who participate in the lesson. Negative reinforcement can also be used to keep students engaged in class. For example, during the lesson, the school administrator can select random students and ask them questions regarding to what is taught in class, the pressure from being not able to answer the question correctly and being embarrassed in front of other students is a form of negative enforcement that will keep students focused in class. Operant conditioning can be very helpful in tackling many problems that the clinic administrator might have with his patients. Operant conditioning has proven to be effective when applied appropriately to patients like children. One of the most common problems with children that clinic administrator faces is to get them to take needle vaccination. More likely, most children will cry and react strongly to needle shots that make the vaccination process stressful and difficult. Using positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement in this situation will help children overcome the fear of needle shots, and therefore, make the vaccination process easier and less stressful. The clinic administrator should help the children acknowledge that by getting vaccination shots, they will be protected from many serious diseases that could possibly hurt them in the future. This approach is recognized as negative enforcement. The clinic administrator should help the children understand the consequences of not getting the vaccination shots is getting sick and exposing to serious diseases, and by that, they will be in an unpleasant situation, which they will miss school and other fun events.
