Positive Parental Efficacy

In the article “Positive Parenting, Beliefs About Parental Efficacy, and Active Coping: Three Sources of Intergeneration Resilience.” By Thomas J. Schofield, Rand D. Conger and Tricia K. Neppl, focused on positive parenting styles. They start off the article by mention parenting behaviors such as warmth, acceptance, engagement and responsiveness. When parents use these parenting styles, it shows above average levels of affectionate intimacy, acceptance, involvement, and love toward their child. They state parenting behavior in one generation predicts parenting behavior in the next.

Schofield, Rand D. Conger and Tricia K. Neppl connects to research question because the authors give examples of positive parenting styles and how they have positive affects. Then they do experiments to prove their points. “Almost all parents have at least some exposure to models of positive parenting: from parents, through observations of other parents, or indirectly through representations of positive parenting in the media.” I believe this to be true because the second the child is born they have the power to raise that child however they please. Even if that parent had a bad childhood from their parents, they can either improve from that or copy that. Like the authors said, there are so many resources around in the world today that display positive parenting.
