One positive learning experience I had today was administering medications. I was able to observe the nurse on duty prepare and give my patient her 7 am meds and then this afternoon I was able to prepare and give her the meds. Even though we did learn to give meds in sim lab I think it’s always a little different in person but after the observing and giving her two meds I feel more comfortable with the entire process by doing the 3 checks and 6 rights of medication. I was able to observe the nurse do the 6 rights to medication and even though she doesn’t ID the patient she knows which patient is who.

My patient was really was really cooperative so I was able to do everything I needed with her but in discussion there were a couple learning

Dr. and fellow Colleagues: For myself it has been a long road, but I can honestly said that over these past ten weeks I start to realized what does a Nurse Practitioner responsibility will be when I take over my own patient load. I gave thank you to my preceptor in this class since he spends many hours explaining what my role will be in near future. “The risk of VTE is significantly increased in patients who are hospitalised after trauma, surgery or immobilising medical illness, and also in pregnant and puerperal women, and DVT is common in such individuals.” (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network, 2010, p. 2) So my primary goal is to learn how to prevent Venous Thromboembolism for post-surgical patients and be familiar with the different guidelines set in the UK and in the hospital that I am working in. I decided to choose this topic because, in the hospital that I came from, VTE is not given much importance especially in patients who just came from surgery or patients who has not mobilized for a long period of time. This may be due to the fact that VTE prophylaxis treatments there…

My day started a bit off, I had an emergency that morning that made me run a bit late for clinical. This made me miss some important information such as, how nurses in NCBH hand over to the next shift, but aside that, I had a wonderful day working with nurse Mrs. Osei. She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. After we were done with her morning medication, I went to one of her patient whom I was assign to by Mrs. Natasha to perform mini mental survey and general assessment on the patients.…

Donna later showed me how to print and send out reminders of patient appointments. The first thing that comes to my mind about this clinical experience was it was slow. I understand this was mainly due to us not having many patients. I feel like we were jinxed just because we had two previous clinicals that were busy. I know that it can be hit or miss whether the obstetrics floor is busy; most of the time the babies decide when they are ready to come out. However, even with the slowness on the floor I still felt like I learned quite a bit.…

The most powerful learning experience at this point in my program would be the continue support that I received from my instructors, peers, and the resources, specifically from the Webinars. When the patient was in labor and began pushing, I aided in supporting one of her legs while the nurse supported the other. I think it was truly amazing to see a child being brought into the world. The postpartum care was also a teamwork. While my preceptor was getting the ice pack, I filled the peri-bottle with warm water and placed dry tower on the bathroom floor to prevent falls. I remembered from class lecture to check for clots in the urine because abnormal size (golf ball size) can be concerning.…
