There are many factors that need to be taken into account when creating a positive learning environment for student achievement. Why is a positive learning environment critical for student achievement? By creating a positive learning environment, students are afforded the opportunities to learn and be successful in an environment where they feel safe and respected. It is a win-win situation. Teachers feel supported, students feel supported, and parents feel validated. Most importantly, parents are kept abreast on of their child’s academic progress. Collaboration does not end with parents. As a matter of fact, communication with students is crucial in every aspect of learning. When teachers verbalize student expectations to their students, break down their data results and provide feedback, and teach them how to monitor their personal progress, students are empowered to become advocates for their education and more apt to engage in their academic progress. It is necessary for their classrooms to be walk-through ready at all times. This means learning goals, Common Core Standards, and classroom expectations are posted and visible at all times. The classroom should be inviting and student-centered. In a positive learning environment, students are given opportunities to show off their work and contribute to a classroom environment that represents ownership and a production of success. Students are shown their test results, taught how to analyze their own data, and set goals. Once goals are set, students are taught various strategies and skills to utilize to assist them in achieving newly set goals. By doing this, students take part in decision-making and data driven instruction in order to meet their high expectations. Students are more accountable for their learning, and they feel part of their learning and decisions being made for their academic
