It has recently been brought to my attention that you are considering dropping science from the school curriculum. I feel that this would be a mistake and during the course of this letter I wish to outline the positive effects teaching and learning science has, not only on individual students but also the school as a whole. Science, in the modern world has become more popular as a choice of study but also the need for future scientists has grown.
“Stand on the shoulders of giants” the quote made famous by Sir Isaac Newton perfectly encapsulates the importance of science, the quote refers to building on the discoveries of those that have come before us, it is the corner stone of scientific thought and what constantly moves …show more content…
Neil deGrasse Tyson said “The good thing about science is that it 's true whether or not you believe in it.” This quote shows that one of the fundamental aspects of science is that it transcends cultural differences and geographical locations, science strives to include the whole of humanity to better ourselves, scientific names of animal species are even written in Latin to allow people throughout the world to despite language barriers, science is the great unifier of the human race.

Maternal mortality rates have fallen dramatically since the 1990s and this is quite simply due our knowledge of biology, without improvements in medicine and studying how people become ill we would not have advanced as a species, we wouldn’t survive as long and many people may not have even been born. Yes, the argument of overpopulation can be brought in here we can look at different mortality rates across the world showing that there is a clear correlation when it comes to mortality rates and, perhaps not the understanding of biology, but at least the implementations of biological knowledge such as clean water supplies and having access to better medical equipment. Biology also links to geography as mentioned with overpopulation but biology is different than chemistry and physics, it is the study of life and as such can link to a subject many would not even think about when talking about science, religious education. Stewardship is a topic which comes up in both subjects with the same general idea, that we should look after the earth and by using biology we can see why we would need to do this not just from a theological aspect but practically; right now we can see the effects that humans have on the world with coral bleaching,
