A lot of people from all over the world play video games. There has been a lot of studies on the positive and negative effects of video games. Different fields of research prove that playing video games can lead to a better information-processing skills. Daphne Bavelier a top scholar in the field once said “One can no more say what the effects of video games are, than one can say what the effects of food are” (Bavelier et al., 2011, p. 763). Generally there are three positive effect of playing video games; multitasking, reacting quickly, and developing reading and computing skills.

Dota 2 is an example of a game that requires complex mathematical skills like computing how much your hit points regenerate per second and its relationship to how much negative hit points you lose in addition to taking damage and reducing that damage by armor or damage block reduction. A professional gamer need to have all of that in mind and prepare for an upcoming encounter against his foe. Simpler games that are aimed for kids are also useful for teaching youngsters to read or to perform simple mathematical problems, problem solving skills are also an example of what children learn from video games. Many puzzles have more than one way to be solved, and children adapted this method of problem solving throughout their childhood years. Besides having fun, it is a great way to motivate and teach children to improve their reading and computing skills.
In conclusion, videogames can be useful and positive for everyone despite their age group.
