Cosmic Radiation Research Paper

Yes, the sun has many positive effects on our lives but I am going to tell you some aspects you didn't know about the sun and how it can harm us in terrible ways. For example, cosmic and solar radiation are very bad for astronauts working in space to be exposed to, because they can get low blood count, radiation sickness’s, cataracts, melanoma, cancer… and potentially even death.
Luckily their are a few scientific and natural solutions to prevent astronauts from being exposed to radiation from space, but their are no solutions which can completely prevent astronauts from being exposed. One of the things which prevent astronauts from being exposed to solar radiation is to stay inside a space station because solar protons can usually not pass through the hull. According to the NASA science site if astronaut’s are exposed to cosmic radiation only a small drizzle of the radiation can come through the hull, but this can still cause microscopic tissue damage which can break your DNA

This can be used to our advantage when we are sending astronauts in space because of the decrease in radiation, and then prevent to many astronauts from being sick from radiation. Also because we can send more astronauts since we know they are safe and gain more knowledge's about space during these solar flares. In a social perspective it would be smart to send astronauts during solar flares for their health. Another solution to prevent astronauts from being exposed to solar and cosmic radiation is the hull of a spacecraft especially since solar radiation cannot go through. But for cosmic radiation only small drizzles can come through the hull but some of the damage can be lethal. The benefits of the hull of space crafts is that it reduces the amount of radiation a astronaut can be exposed to which can save

Task 1: radioactive decay is a nuclei of some isotopes which are unstable. If a radioactive isotope decays the it will change and become a different atom with different number of protons. Radioactive decays also are a process which has an unstable atomic nucleus and which causes it to lose energy this because of radiation, for example there three main types of radioactive decay alpha, beta, and gamma particle. If a material has unstable nuclei it would be considered as radioactive. If an atom has emitted an alpha, or beta radiation it nucleus would change and become an nucleus of an different element.…

When people think about the amount of radiation received to an entire afternoon in the sun for five or ten minutes in a tanning bed they would think it’s even. “Average UVA levels of sunbeds easily reach midday solar UVA levels in the…

Medicine Changed by Radiation Radiation has changed over the years and wasn’t even known to be used in medicine until after it was used in the military in World War II. It was discovered by a German scientist but then the possibilities of all the things it could be used for was discovered by a Polish-born French scientist. Radiation changed medicine for the better by killing off cancerous, disease ridden germs and cells, this is significant because it changed the way we look at treatment. In 1895, radiation had just been discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a professor at Wuerzburg University in Germany. ("History of Radiography").…

Many of us don’t know what radiation means let me enlighten your mind in physics, radiation is the emission or transmission of energy in the form of waves or particles through space or through a material medium (Google). Radiation is used in our life in different ways and to figure that out we’re going to ask a few students from Chavez to tell us how much they expose themselves to radiation. Purpose of project:…

However, beside all of it’s good qualities, the sun can also be harmful in large amounts. One of the most dangerous factors from sun is exposure of UV radiation. The UV radiations are separated by different wave lengths, and the most common types are UVA and UVB, which have a variety of effects in the skin due to the absorption patterns of chromospheres, the parts of the molecules. These ultraviolet radiations lead to mutations that the cell may not be able to overcome and thus leading to uncontrolled growth and eventual skin cancer.…

the ship cut down on cost to include such a device? Also, normal space missions have to keep enough energy to sustain human life with just the essentials, but on a trip to Mars which could take 68 days (Sample), there would need to be enough energy to keep this shield up for all that time on the way to Mars and on the way back. This is a considerably large amount of energy that needs to be added to the ship. While there are many problems that could be found in this type of shield, the mastermind of recent studies, Bamford and colleagues, states that this idea could be assembled and implemented by 2020 (Cartlidge). This mission could only bring humans to the Moon, but is still an accomplishment notable of further consideration for Mars missions.…

However the main solution scientists and doctors have found for protecting eyes from developing cataracts, is wearing sunglasses. The light that the sun emits is called electromagnetic radiation. The radiation ranges from radio waves to gamma rays, and the three types of radiation that are dangerous to us are ultra-violet rays, x-rays, and gamma rays. However, for cataracts scientists are worried about UV light. This is the radiation that has slightly more energy than visible light, but is not visible, making humans susceptible to it and exposed (see Figure 1).…

Every year, millions of people lather on sunscreen, thinking it could protect them from skin damage and cancer. Every person is taught that the sun is the main reason for skin cancer. I started thinking a long time ago—if sunblock is to prevent skin cancer, why is the sun still to blame if we are adequately protected? The way sunblock is meant to work is by blocking the damaging UV and UVB rays. For many years now, the media would have you believe that you’re to use sunblock every time you’re going to be exposed to the sun for a long period of time.…

Thesis: Our energy comes predominantly from fossil fuels because of it’s supposed inexpensiveness. However, the cost of fossil fuels in terms of human lives is often ignored. Nuclear power, on the other hand, is a much safer alternative because it results in fewer deaths per unit of energy produced than coal and natural gas. By comparing their outputs in terms of energy produced per unit of fuel consumed, and comparing that with the amount of byproducts produced as well as the amount of deaths associated with both energy sources we can analyse their relative harmfulness.…
