According to the behavior of this cancer, and my genomic status, I will most likely be affected. However, if I begin to look for symptoms now; I can now prevent future detrimental consequences. Some of the symptoms of Osteosarcoma are an aching pain in the bones or an obvious tumor where the joints in your body meet. Treating this can be accomplished through the use of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. The long term prognosis that, if caught in an early stage, there is a 70% chance of survival. Another disease that I had been tested positive for is Hyperthyroidism (congenital), which is located on Chromosome 15. Hyperthyroidism is due a mutation occurring in the gene that encodes the functions of your thyroid. This disease prevents the thyroid from producing specific hormones, but also causes iodine deficiency and an error in the metabolic process. I carry two alleles for this mutation; meaning that I had inherited the mutation from both parents. Treating this disease is vital as it usually begins to negatively affect the body early on (great consequences are implied if not treated). Some of the symptoms to beware of are a decrease in physical …show more content…
Genetic testing is exciting in theory, but the information analyzed from a genetic profile can actually be terrifying. I do think that I would be interested in uncovering my genetic profile, but I think that I would need to mentally prepare myself for the findings before getting the test done. Luckily, genetic testing may become a greater possibility in the future as it is getting progressively inexpensive (as it cost 100 million dollars in 2001, but cost just under 10 thousand dollars in
