Communication online has helped many people to calm down. It is a stress relief to talk to others online, instead of real life. It is easier now to make friends online than it used to be. Some people feel alone at home and they do not get that much attention. Technology helps them feel like they matter. A professor from Stanford University, Clifford Nass, stated, "Kids have to learn about emotion, and the way they do that, really, is by paying attention to other people. They have to really look them in the eye. " Most kids these days don't even communicate face-to-face. Texting has become the main form of communication, so when kids get home, how can they look at each other in the eye if they just text? Another study has shown that children's social skills are affected negatively when they multitask with technology.…

Humans are using less social skills due to constant messaging with their fingertips. Governments and institutions are beginning to take total power because of the lack of knowledge in the community.…

When a novel or movie is classed as being fictional, it is automatically assumed that the content inside is not related to our society today even if it is set in places or times different from our own. In the fictional novel Fahrenheit 451, the author Ray Bradbury is able to display ideas and problems that occur in our everyday lives even though it was written during the 1950’s. Bradbury is able to show the impact of technology on a society which includes the advantages that it has on that society but he is also able to show the major disadvantages that may occur from technology. In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury conveys the idea of society discouraging individuality which causes the people of that society to have no creativity or independent thought.…

As technology becomes a more influential part of human society, questions are raised considering its impact on society. Clive Thompson’s article, Smarter than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better, addresses this issue by stating that technology has a positive effect on society. Jenna Wortham’s article, I Had a Nice Time with You Tonight. On the App., presents a similar argument, but takes a different approach, by making her argument more grounded in everyday life. Thompson’s analysis of how technology positively affects humanity can help shed light on Wortham’s observations about present day technology’s positive effects on communication.…

After reading the two articles titled, "Technology Doesn't Make Us Less Social; It Just Changes The Way We Socialize" by Tim Cushing and “When You ‘Literally Can’t Even’ Understand Your Teenager” by Amanda Hess, I believe the benefits of technology are priceless. Technology has enabled us to advance in the world. Although there maybe some downfalls with this advancement, the pros of technology will always overcast the cons. We live in a time where technology has become a huge requirement in our everyday lives. Everyone from preteens and even the elderly (old and old- old) seems to have their own smart phone, laptop, and even tablets. I think technology, including the internet is essentially good because it helps us communication, our education, navigation, and many other things that we need help with on a daily basis. If we compare and contrast the technology from twenty years ago and today, there are many things that have changed for the better.…

“No matter how you look at it, we are creating what author Douglas Rushkoff calls a “society of authorship” where every teacher and every student – every person with access – will have the ability to contribute ideas and experiences to the larger body of knowledge that is the Internet”. I strongly believe that the society of authorship is one of the essential benefits of the Read/Write Web for several reasons. First, everybody is able to create content just writing and publishing his own ideas, opinions, comments and so on. For instance, students and teachers will find loads of Web sites where they can upload documents, videos and articles of their own. Second, future educators should take the challenge and allow their students to become facilitators of information.…
