Self-Exploration When I was young, my mother was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. She was in a coma for three months and was then admitted into rehab after waking up. From the age of six years old, I started wondering how the human body worked. I always questioned, why people ended up with terrible diseases and what could be done to treat them. For my career, I have chosen Registered Nurse. Registered Nurses have always interested me because of their duty to help patients. Being a Registered Nurse, I would be required to help in the treatment of patients and to keep the patients feeling comfortable as per doctor 's orders. Making someone 's day by just a smile when they are sick, makes me happy. There are many positive characteristics of this job, and it is hard to limit to only two. However, two positive characteristics of this career would be helping patients feel better, and also having the responsibility for someone’s health. Being responsible for helping someone feel better by not only medication but just being there, is rewarding to me. Two characteristics that are negative in my career choice are, contagious sicknesses and death. Having small children may cause some difficulties in my chosen career due to the sicknesses that are spread by airborne particles. Being around certain airborne illnesses have always scared me so that is an obstacle I will have to overcome. Also, my biggest fear in life is death. When I am near a person that has died I have always felt as though I am having a panic attack, but I will not allow this to stop me from living out my dream career. This salary range would support my lifestyle because I am currently not employed. My husband is the sole provider of the family, along with the trucking business we have together. This salary is enough for me to earn while having a career I love. The employment outlook for Registered Nurses is projected to grow 19% from the years 2012-2022, faster than the average for all occupations (“Registered Nurses”). According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, growth for employment will occur for several reasons, including increased focus on preventative care and growing rates of chronic conditions. Normally, Registered Nurses work a twelve hour shift in a hospital. However, I do not feel this is ideal for me, and I will be seeking employment elsewhere and not in a hospital setting. Having children, I feel as though it is hard to work a twelve hour shift and still be able to do what I need to do with them. There are multiple areas of work a Registered Nurse can focus on. Some areas of focus related to my career would be a nurse in a hospital, clinic, home health, hospice program, or surgery
