To understand positive behavior systems we must first understand what a behaviour is. A behavior is an action to communicate an individual's needs. “PBS promotes changes in behavior, skills and quality of life that are valued by the individual receiving support…” (Brown, Anderson, (2015) p.4). Combined Pharmacological and Behavioral Interventions is a method of treatment that centers on the shared usage of medication and behavior treatment. This combination has been shown to be quite effective in treating children with ADHD and has several advantages over medication alone or behavioral treatment alone. With the addition of medication, the behavioral component of treatment may be able to be scaled down, thereby reducing the amount of time parents and teachers need to spend on shaping behavior. The dose of medication can be reduced for children using a combined approach. Parents knowledgeable about the use of behavioral treatments can apply such treatments during times when the child is not taking medication (i.e., in the evenings…

The most important factor in supporting positive classroom behaviours is to create a classroom that makes a student feel safe physically and emotionally. The brains of students are in the process of developing neural networks and can be moulded by the environment that they are in (Rossouw, 2014). Creating a safe environment connects to AITSL (2011) standard 4.4 which is to ‘manage student safety’ and it is through the efforts of teachers that an environment can be created to be safe for students. Rossouw (2014), stressed the importance of implementing…
