Positive and Negative Factors Impacting Human Security The issues of human security and global economics are prevalent today and many have different views and ideas about the key actors that we should look for the largest contributions to strengthening these two sectors. With the increase of the globalization of our planet our problems have become intertwined and many believe that an international approach is the best solution. There are also differences in what people believe to be the most serious issue at this moment. Within human security and global economics I will discuss the multiple views of the different course materials I have viewed this semester such as Lamy, Susan George, Annual Editions, Inter Press Service and the LA Times. …show more content…
Lamy believes in the supranational specialized organizations and NGO’s to play a primary role is peacebuilding and rehabilitation. The interconnectedness of these NGO’s and the UN is a complex one but an effective use of services when helping refugees and others (Lamy Pg. 252). In an article from the Inter Press Service, Silvia Boarini wrote on the Syrian Refugees being aided by UNRWA or United Nations Relief and Works Agency, though not very successfully. Boarini takes a stance that is not as much in the favor for specialized agencies because of their lack of funding makes the efficacy of the organization small. Boarini may look to financial aid from counties for human security because of the lack of financial backing of the UNRWA (Boarini …show more content…
Those who are considered in the civil society are those not in the public or private sector but still continues to engage in debate on factors affecting the people on a global scale. Those of the civil society engage in social movements or collective actions that challenge the norms of life in search of solutions to global problems. Civil society also aims to promote transnational social movements to help with global campaigns to address issues in developing counties (Lamy Pg. 175). One civil society group is Anonymous, a group of international hackers against censorship. Anonymous has an article in Annual Editions on Edward Snowden and his leaking of over 50,000 pages of documents from the NSA. These files included information of the NSA spying on citizens of the United states and the article deals with is the spying helping us to keep us safe and improve human security or is spying on us breaking that security. Anonymous describes Snowden in a good light opposed to most people because they share the same views. Groups like Anonymous can spur change that can strengthen human security and cause revolutions for the better (Anonymous Pg. 214

Summary: Research Question: “How has Australia protected human rights of asylum seekers in Immigration detention centers?” My Research Project was motivated by a movie screening I had attended during Refugee Week. The film viewed was “Mary meets Mohammad” (2013), which documented the commencement of Tasmania’s first Immigration detention Centre in 2011. From this involvement I was inquisitive as to how alacritous Australia’s society is in supporting asylum seekers and refugees.…

More often than not, civil disobedience has been used for the betterment of societal values and, therefore, positively impacts a free society. The current turmoil in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is arguably the greatest example of the unintended consequences of human greed and cruelty. The DRC had every potential to flourish, with enormous mineral reserves, a lush, tropical climate, and access to trade routes through the coast and the Congo River. The legacy of European colonialism in the country lead to disaster, however, and the Congo’s untapped potential remains untapped, as the country remains unstable, destitute, and dangerous. The greatest victims of the DRC’s turmoil are its citizens, many of whom are refugees, fleeing violence and instability. According to the Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children, about four out of five of Eastern Congo refugees are women,…
