If the Title IX was exempted from the intercollegiate athletics, it would have been even more difficult for women to have access to money that also belongs to them due to the fact the schools are federally funded. The women athletes would not be able to participate in other competitions or tournaments, means of travel, scheduling of games/practice times and use of facilities, etc. They would have also been restricted on equipment to increase their athletic skills and lack of medical treatment for the teams. This would have had an even more negative impact to the schools having lack of interest and support in women sports for their programs to be successful along with expanding the opportunities for women.
Another issue with women’s sports that would have continued in the 1970’s is the lack of media surrounding women’s sports, even if they are more successful than their male counterpart. The women would not get the recognition for their winnings therefore not being able to obtains sponsors, be able to expand their organization and show the athletic talent of women, other than being used as a sex symbol. If women sports received more media attention this would also help the Women’s intercollegiate be seen as a competitive sport that is equal to men and not just seen as a recreational
